Q + A

What is the attire?

We would love you to come comfortable in Fall Wedding Casual attire.

Why York, Maine and October 11?

This part of the country, especially this time of year, is breath-takingly beautiful as the leaves are changing, apple picking is in season, and this is where we got engaged. There is so much to do/see, and we wanted to share it with you.

Where should we stay?

The wedding is in York, Maine. Unlike Houston (and Texas), you can travel from state to state within the time it would take you to travel from Katy to the east end of Houston or Galveston. We have included details on towns that are within 75 minutes from the wedding venue (Churchill Barn, York, Maine). For the day of the wedding, staying in York or Kittery would be ideal. We will likely have a shuttle for anyone staying in York - it will take you to and from the wedding (if you don't want to drive). We have provided links to hotels, VRBO's and Bed-and-Breakfasts. If you are making this a mini-vacation to tour the history of our country and/or leaf-peep, you may want to book other nights in one of the many of neighboring towns/cities or states. North Conway, New Hampshire, has the White Mountains, Diana's Bath, and Cathedral's Ledge. It is 90-minute-ish drive from York. Peabody, Danvers, and Salem are places to stay if you want to hop on a commuter train to visit Boston. I love the North End! Visit the Things To Do section to learn more.

What is apple picking?

I(Shari) first went apple-picking last year (October 2023) with Liz (my best friend of 45+ years) while leaf peeping in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I had no idea a "simple" task of apple picking would be so much fun. You are given a bag to wander through an orchard hosting a variety of apples and pick until your bag is full. We are hosting an "apple-picking" gathering the Friday before our wedding, if you so choose.

When should we book our rooms?

While the wedding is not until October 11 of 2025, it is a popular time to travel to this part of the country -Leaf Peepers come to see the fall foliage. It is best to reserve a room sooner than later to lock in the lower rates; many hotels require a credit card but will not charge your card, and they have a cancellation policy. We have secured room blocks at two hotels: The Holiday Inn in Portsmouth, NH The Anchorage Inn in York, ME See the Travel section for more details on the room blocks and to secure a room.

What are some thoughts on transportation? Car rentals?

Depending on your plans and where you stay, there are different options for travel. The best option is to rent a car - I always book a reservation as early as possible as most car rental places have flexible cancellation policies and don't require a credit card. If renting a car is not an option, New England has a train/railway system that when - used with Uber- can help you get around. For the those who are staying in York, we will have a shuttle to take you to and from the Churchill Barn (the wedding venue).

What airport would be best to fly into? How far is it from places to see and/or the wedding?

Logan Airport to... York, ME (67 miles/1 hr. 16 minutes) or Danvers, MA (20 miles/29 minutes) or Peabody, MA (14 miles/24 minutes) or Salem, MA (14 miles/22 minutes) or North Andover, MA (30 miles/39 minutes) or Topsfield, MA (31 miles/23 minutes) or Portsmouth, NH (56.8 miles/60 minutes) or Kittery, ME (58 miles/62 minutes).
